10km RACE FOR LIFE 2010 - Tick!

Well - its over!

I ran 10km yesterday for Race for Life, raising money for Cancer Research.

Hubby and me set off at 7.30am to drive to York Racecourse, and arrived at 9am. We got out of the car and it was already 20 degrees - not boding well!!

We had a wander around for a while soaking up the atmosphere, and I'll admit to having a bit of an emotional moment looking at people's "I Race for Life for..." signs on their backs, took me a while to be able to speak again.

Then the Nivea male cheerleaders came on - where they found those guys I'm not sure but lets just say it outloud... they were a bit ... hmm.... well there's no other way to say it... they were a bit Gay...

We did a warm up and then they announced that we would be starting - runners to the front, joggers next, then walkers. I debated whether to go in with the walkers for a while but went with joggers instead!

I paced myself throughout the race, but found myself speeding up when people were cheering us on! Unfortunately I had to stop for a pee at 4km, one portoloo on the race track, whats that about?? I was 5 minutes queuing and I lost my stride a bit, had to walk for a while, but by 4.5km I was running again.

By 5km I was pretty wacked, but by this point there were people there cheering us all on, which kept my legs moving! Gareth was there with the camera too - so I definately couldnt stop!

I kept running and got down to an area that said "Second lap - this way", and a race marshall was saying "If your on your second lap, turn left! If your on your first lap, turn right!" I have to admit, I was getting pretty warm at this point and thought about just turning left!!

Anyway, I turned right and went round again, but had to walk again for a while as the heat was really starting to get to me! I walked to the corner, and started again.

I got to roughly 7km and had to walk again as I had a stitch - I couldnt believe it! I haven't had a stitch for about 3 weeks! I must have drunk too much water! Walked past a Race Marshall holding my side and he asked if I was ok, and did I need St Johns Ambuulance? Hehehe, no, its just a stitch! :-)

Started running again, at about 7.5km, and didnt stop again until the finish - oh hang on, no, I needed to walk again for about a minute, but started running again once I had turned left.

From there I kept running, I'm not sure how I did it because by this point I couldn't feel my legs!

I finished in an hour and 22 minutes and 28 seconds, collected my goodybag and my medal which I will take a photograph of with my T-shirt and number etc and post up on here! But I feel very proud that I have completed this, and cant wait for next time - randomly I want to do it again!!

run no:3

Run number 3 after the buggering cough and I'm feeling ok...

Ran = 6km
Legs = numb
Shins = hurting
Emotions = much better

I feel good after todays run although I didn't complete all 7km.... I made it around the block and round the field and ran through a Oil seed rape field and went to run past my house and couldn't quite make myself run past it...

This is how the internal conversation went...

Self : Keep going Lyndsey, you can do it, its only another 1km

Other self : No.

Self : COME ON! I know you can make it!

Other self : No.

Self : Okay.

So, Although I didn't manage the full run I had set myself, I feel proud cos I'm nearly back to the 7km I was at before the buggering cough!!

Yay!
